Start tomorrow off on the right foot. Take control, starting now. Evaluate where you are and what you have done over the previous few weeks to get there. Whether you’ve had a slew of weddings, birthday parties, happy hours or anything else that has caused you to fall of your healthy path, let’s start over now. How can you change your approach to be more successful working towards your goals? What more can you do to make your aspirations reality? Recommit to a program, daily activity, or weekly check-in with a friend to hold yourself accountable. Believe in the process as much as the end-goal. Reboot your routine with your new commitments in mind and you will be well on your way to building the healthy habits you have always wanted. It will not be easy, but it will surely be worth it.
Keep pushing yourself – regardless of your starting point, know that you are always capable of more. Set a challenge for yourself and start now. Maybe you want to build more muscle mass – grab those heavier weights instead of the light ones this week or turn up your resistance in your next cycling class. Make it your mission to do whatever it takes to beat your personal best, whether that means attending one more class or working harder than you have been. Concept 2 row ergs, ski ergs and most Spinning® and Air Assault bikes have performance tracking consoles that make it easy to set goals and monitor progress. Find something you struggle with or are unhappy about, and challenge yourself to fix it. Get started now, and build a routine that encourages you to continuously strive for improvement.
If you have trouble sticking to your plan (it happens to the best of us), set notifications on your phone. Try writing an inspiring quote from your favorite author as a reminder of the “why” behind your goals. Write a message on your mirror that you can see each morning when you wake up (mirror markers do exist!). Allow others to be a part of your support group – let the regulars you’ve been sweating next to at your fitness studio lift you up when you feel down. There might be days when you are at a standstill or even moving backwards – it is important to take one day at a time. If you didn’t feel great about yesterday, do better today. If today isn’t your day, tomorrow has to be! Keep pushing forward. You are working towards progress, if your goals are worthwhile so is the process it takes to get you there. Perseverance and determination are the keys to success.
Take advice as it comes and always keep an open mind. Here’s to a great, healthy start this Fall.
